Complete Drone Guide

Understand drone levels, parts, components, skill chips and Combat Boost—and turn each upgrade into measurable squad strength.

On this page
Quick answer

The drone is four connected systems, not one power number. Raise its base level with Battle Data and Drone Parts, merge all six components without creating a weak side, build four Legendary chips that match your main troop type, and use Combat Boost to strengthen those chips. Save the expensive upgrades for the correct Alliance Duel day whenever practical.

What the drone actually does

The drone joins combat automatically and cannot be targeted like a hero. It contributes its own damage while also adding attributes to the heroes in the squad. That makes it both a sixth source of battlefield pressure and a permanent account-wide development system.

A large drone power number does not explain where the advantage comes from. Open the drone and separate these four layers:

System Main resource What it improves
Drone level Battle Data and Drone Parts Base drone development, hero attributes and level breakpoints.
Components Component chests and matching merges Six permanent attribute bonuses applied to the formation.
Skill chips Chip chests and Premium Chip Material Opening, attack, troop-matched interference and defensive effects.
Combat Boost Chips fed into the boost system Chip-skill strength, additional presets and long-term chip development.

Drone levels: Battle Data versus Drone Parts

Normal development consumes Battle Data. Up to Level 150, Drone Parts are required at every fifth level: 5, 10, 15 and so on. After Level 150, parts become an every-level requirement, so the bottleneck changes sharply. Do not spend parts without knowing the next complete level target.

Target level Parts for that five-level breakthrough Planning note
50 120 Early account: steady progress matters more than perfect optimisation.
75 250 Keep buying the reliable free and store sources.
100 500 Parts are now a serious saved resource.
120 1,000 Name the full target before spending.
125 / 130 1,500 / 2,000 Do not confuse partial stages with a finished level.
135 / 140 3,000 / 4,000 Compare event rewards and component opportunity cost.
145 / 150 5,000 each The final pre-150 climbs require deliberate saving.

The live screen divides a breakthrough into stages. A source may describe the cost per stage while another lists the total across all stages. Always check which figure you are reading before planning.

When should you spend Drone Parts?

Alliance Duel normally rewards drone development on Day 1, Radar Training. If waiting will not block an urgent combat milestone, bank Battle Data and Drone Parts and apply them during the scoring window. You gain the same permanent upgrade plus VS points.

Do not delay a critical event fight for days merely to optimise a small score, and do not empty every reserve just because the VS button is glowing. The correct rhythm is: choose the next finished drone level, save its resources, spend on the matching day, then rebuild the reserve.

The six drone components

Components are separate from drone level. Six equipped pieces add hero attributes, and three identical components of one level merge into a single component at the next level. Because every merge consumes three, the real cost grows exponentially.

English Last War battle report comparing all six Drone Components and their upgrade progress
The Components section of a genuine English Last War battle report. Each side displays six equipped components, their levels and progress towards the next upgrade.
Component target Equivalent Level-1 pieces What that means
Level 4 27 Reachable early baseline.
Level 5 81 Three times the complete Level-4 cost.
Level 6 243 Choice chests become increasingly valuable.
Level 7 729 Random drops can create uneven progress.
Level 8 2,187 A long-term project rather than a quick merge.
Level 9 6,561 One level now represents substantial account value.

Use choice chests to repair imbalance. Do not automatically feed the component that is already furthest ahead. Check the six equipped levels and direct controlled rewards toward the lagging high-value slot. A broad formation benefits from Attack, HP and Defence together; one oversized offensive component cannot compensate for a frontline that disappears immediately.

Component chests normally score on Alliance Duel Day 3, Age of Science. Keep unopened chests for that day when the event rules shown on your server confirm it.

Skill chips: four different jobs

Skill chips are not ordinary components. They equip into four defined slots and their effects run during combat. The names can vary with translation or release, but the jobs are consistent:

Slot Job Priority test
Initial Move Opening protection or effect at the beginning of battle. Does it help the frontline survive the first enemy cycle?
Attack Improves drone attack pressure. Does drone damage materially help secure an elimination?
Interference Troop-specific amplification or combat effect. It must match Tank, Aircraft or Missile for the squad using the preset.
Defence Battle-long defensive support. Does it create another useful hero skill cycle?

The troop-matched Interference chip is the easiest serious mistake to make. A strong Aircraft chip equipped behind a Tank formation may look impressive in the inventory but will not provide the intended Tank effect. Create and name presets for each developed squad rather than changing one preset from memory before every battle.

Chip rarity, crafting and resets

Keep useful Epic chips equipped until a real Legendary replacement is ready. Do not dismantle the working preset merely because the final build uses gold chips. The Chip Lab can craft, dismantle and reset chips, letting you recover invested development resources when the account changes direction.

Legendary recipes become available as the Chip Lab develops; current community data places the Initial Move recipe at Lab Level 15 and the remaining Legendary recipes by Level 20. Beyond the point where the required recipes are open, another combat building may deliver more value than rushing the Lab purely for its level.

A crafted Legendary chip commonly requires 800 Premium Chip Material. Treat that as a planned target. Randomly crafting for three formations at once delays the complete four-chip preset that the main squad can use every day.

Combat Boost and chip stars

Combat Boost strengthens the chip system and unlocks additional preset capacity at major thresholds. Feed unwanted chips only after protecting every chip currently used by an active formation. Lock important chips before dismantling or using bulk actions.

Combat Boost Key account effect Who needs it
10 Opens the core skill-chip system and first preset when server conditions are met. Every developing account.
150 Higher chip-skill boost and another preset. Players developing a useful second march.
300 Further skill boost and preset growth. Established multi-squad accounts.
450+ Long-term boost and additional preset development. Late-game accounts; follow the live unlock screen.

Chip stars and Combat Boost are visible in an English battle report. They are not cosmetic. A large gap can explain why two formations with similar-looking heroes perform very differently.

What the battle report proves

English Last War battle report comparing Drone Combat Boost, chip stars, components and hero attribute bonuses
A genuine English report compares Combat Boost, chip stars and all six components, then translates the component difference into HP, Defence and Attack added to every hero.

In this report the blue side has Combat Boost 354 against 255 and 17 chip stars against 8. Its component advantage produces larger hero HP, Defence and Attack additions. The Statistics screen then records the drone’s separate equivalent damage, allowing the development gap to be connected to an actual battle result.

How to diagnose your drone

Report symptom Check first Likely next project
Drone damage is far behind a similar opponent. Drone level, Attack chip, Combat Boost and offensive components. Finish the cheapest meaningful offensive breakpoint.
Heroes die before their important skills. Initial Move, Defence chip and HP/Defence component gap. Protection before more drone damage.
Main squad is strong but second preset is weak. Troop-type chip match and whether good chips were split too early. Complete main preset, then build the second deliberately.
Power rose but results did not. Whether the upgrade matched the formation’s actual failure. Stop buying power; test one combat constraint.

A practical progression plan

Early account

  1. Collect Battle Data and Drone Parts every day.
  2. Raise the drone steadily and never miss an affordable five-level breakthrough.
  3. Equip all six components and merge them broadly.
  4. Build one coherent main formation before planning three chip presets.

Developing main squad

  1. Bank parts for named targets and use them on VS Day 1.
  2. Use component choice rewards to repair the weakest equipped slots.
  3. Complete four chips for the main troop type; verify the Interference match.
  4. Save before-and-after reports with the same preset.

Established and late game

  1. Compare each post-150 drone level with the next component and chip breakpoint.
  2. Build second and third presets only for squads that are genuinely used.
  3. Push Combat Boost thresholds deliberately rather than sacrificing working chips.
  4. Judge every expensive step by combat effect, not account power alone.

Reliable places to collect resources

  • Daily play: Daily Tasks, radar and zombie activity provide steady development materials.
  • Stores: Alliance, VIP and Campaign stores regularly offer drone-related items; compare them with your other scarce priorities.
  • Alliance content: Alliance Duel, Alliance Exercise and event chests provide parts, components or chip materials.
  • Rotating events: Zombie Invasion and other limited stores can be strong sources, but stock changes.
  • Component Factory and Chip Lab: collect production and keep recipes aligned with the active plan.

Common mistakes

  • Calling level, components, chips and Combat Boost the same upgrade.
  • Using a troop-specific Interference chip with the wrong formation.
  • Opening component chests immediately and losing easy VS points.
  • Merging the strongest component repeatedly while another slot falls far behind.
  • Dismantling useful Epic chips before their Legendary replacements exist.
  • Feeding a working chip into Combat Boost by mistake.
  • Splitting premium materials across three incomplete presets.
  • Changing the drone preset during a hero test, making the result impossible to interpret.

Commander checklist

  • I know my next complete drone-level target and total part requirement.
  • All six components are equipped and choice chests repair the weakest useful slot.
  • My Interference chip matches the main squad’s troop type.
  • Every active preset has its important chips locked.
  • I use the correct Alliance Duel day when waiting is sensible.
  • I compare drone damage and hero attribute bonuses in battle reports.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose Drone Parts or component chests?

Before Level 150, parts often unlock clear drone breakthroughs; near a component merge, a choice chest may produce the stronger immediate combat gain. After Level 150, compare the expensive every-level part requirement with the attributes gained from the next component. There is no permanent answer without seeing both progress bars.

Should components stay even?

They do not need identical levels, but avoid an extreme gap created by blindly merging the same slot. Use choice rewards to correct the weakest important attribute for the formation.

Does drone damage belong to my strongest hero?

No. The Statistics report lists equivalent drone damage separately. Keep it separate when judging Kimberly, DVA, Tesla or another carry.

Can one chip preset serve every formation?

General chips may still function, but the troop-specific Interference effect must match the formation. Proper Tank, Aircraft and Missile presets prevent avoidable mismatches.
