Combat Fundamentals
A practical introduction to the five forces that shape every battle and help commanders make smarter upgrade decisions.
Mission Objective
Understand the five forces that shape every battle, so you can identify why a squad won or lost and choose upgrades with a clear purpose.
1. Survivability
Survivability is your squad’s ability to remain combat-effective.
It is influenced by HP, Defence, damage reduction, shields, healing and frontline durability. Every extra second the frontline survives gives attackers and support heroes more time to contribute.
Key lesson: A defeated hero cannot deal damage or activate skills.
2. Damage Output
Damage output is the total damage your squad delivers before the battle ends.
Attack, offensive gear, skill damage, critical effects and buffs can all improve it. High damage is valuable, but only when your heroes survive long enough to deliver it.
3. Skill Impact
Skills can deal burst damage, provide shields, strengthen allies or weaken enemies.
Close battles may be decided by whether an important hero survives long enough to activate another skill.
4. Positioning and Targeting
Positioning affects which heroes are exposed and which remain protected.
The standard formation places Defence heroes on the frontline, with Attack and Support heroes behind them. Specialist formations should always have a clear purpose.
5. Team Synergy
A squad is more than five individual heroes.
Vehicle type, formation bonuses, complementary skills, equipment, research and Exclusive Weapons all influence how effectively the team works together.
Diagnose the Battle
After a loss, ask:
- Did my frontline collapse too early?
- Did a key attacker die before contributing enough?
- Did my squad survive but lack finishing damage?
- Did positioning or the vehicle matchup favour my opponent?
- Did an important skill, shield or buff change the result?
The answers reveal which weakness should be addressed next.
Command Summary
Displayed power measures investment, but battle performance depends on how effectively that investment works together.
Improve the weakness that is costing you battles—not simply the upgrade that produces the largest power increase.
Lord Dark Beard’s Note: Every resource should solve a problem. If you cannot identify the problem, review the battle before spending.
